Foreign health insurance is a mandatory type of policy for non-Turkish citizens who will reside in Turkey for 1 years or more, and it can be used for the treatment needs of foreign nationals. It is required during application for residence permit.
Insureds can secure themselves with guarantees for inpatient and outpatient treatments.
If a foreign national’s wife is a Turkish citizen, an SSI inquiry is conducted before foreign health insurance.
If the spouse is insured under SSI, no foreign health insurance is required.
Foreign nationals whose spouse aren’t insured with SSI are required to obtain foreign health insurance so that they can reside in Turkey.
A process similar to the foreign health insurance policy implemented in Turkey is applied in many countries around the world.
However, in Europe and North America, preferred names that we can translate into Turkish will be residence permit insurance rather than foreign health insurance. In this sense, this type of insurance is also defined as a foreign national residence permit health insurance. Foreign health insurance guarantees are divided into two forms of treatment as inpatient and outpatient.
Let’s remind that the guarantee limits for foreign residential insurance may vary according to insurance companies.
Outpatient treatment guarantees are outlined as follows:
- Doctor’s exam
- Tests
- Medicine
- Physical therapy
The inpatient treatment guarantees are listed as follows:
- Surgeries,
- Expenses incurred in case of hospital stay
- Chemotherapy
- Radiotherapy
- Dialysis
- Artificial limb expenses
Warranties are active during the policy period and the duration of the policy is limited to 1 year.
At the end of 1 year, a foreign national can renew its policy if they continue to reside in Turkey.
